Mrs. Hattie Vander Pol was born February 15, 1870 at Pella, Iowa and at the age of one year she came to Sioux County with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vander Wilt, residing here in Sioux County until her death on Tuesday, May 6, 1941 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert Smit at Boyden. At the age of 20 years she was married to Mr. Marinus Vander Pol at Orange City, Iowa who preceded her in death, May 14, 1938, and had since been making her home with her children.

To this union three children were born: those surviving are: Annie, Mrs. Bert Smit; Cornelia, Mrs. Arie Bomgaars; and Henry Vander Poel; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Sophie DeKraai; three brothers, and five sisters preceding her in death.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon, May 9th with Reverend J.W. Brink and Reverend Roetman officiating. Interment was made at Newkirk Cemetery.
