From the Rock Valley Bee, June 28, 2935:

FORMER RESIDENT HAS PASSED ON

George Frederick Hillmer was born in Germany April 27, 1863, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. August Steinfeldt, at Stickney, S.D., on June 19, 1935, being seventy-two years, one month and twenty-two days old at the time of his death.

With his parents he immigrated to Woodbine, Ill., at the age of 6 years and in the surrounding community he spent his youth and attended school graduating from the German English college at Galena, Ill., with high honors in the spring of 1884. After graduation he taught school in Nicollet county, Minnesota, for six years and at the end of that time he was married to Bertha Schrader October 30, 1890, at New Ulm, Minn. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Mabelle Steinfeldt, now living at Stickney, S.D.; Royal Henry at Sioux Center, Iowa; and Mrs. Esther Miller at Plankinton, S.D.

The years following his marriage were spent in business at Sioux Center, Iowa; Volga, S.D.; and later at Rock Valley. In 1921 he moved to Stickney, S.D., where he took up residence with his daughter following the death of his wife in 1919.

Besides his three children he leaves to mourn his death three brothers, Anton and Richard of Long Beach, Calif., and August of Sioux Center, and one sister, Mrs. Tillie Folkens, of Stockton, Ill., besides numerous nieces, nephews and friends in the different communities in which he was known.

The funeral was held at New Ulm, Minnesota June 23, 1935 from the Methodist Episcopal church, interment being made beside his wife in the City Cemetery at New Ulm.
