Mrs. Vander Haak, Pioneer of Sioux County, Died Tuesday at Orange City

Funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon, at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the First Christian Reformed Church, Reverend Dr. R Bronkema officiating.

Mrs. John Vander Haak, 85, member of the pioneer Sipma family, passed away Tuesday morning at her home at Orange City after a protracted illness. She had been bedfast four months.

She came of a family of five boys and four girls, only two of whom now survive - her brother, S. R. Sipma of Alton, and her sister, Mrs. John Starkenburg of Orange City, who is the youngest of the family.

Mrs. Vander Haak was born in the Netherlands, coming to this country with her parents when only about five years of age. The family were among the earliest pioneers of the county sixty years ago, and Mrs. VanderHaak saw the growth of this section from untamed prairie to one of the most prosperous agriculture areas in the worlds.

Her husband passed on some years ago.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters, all respected citizens of this section, as follows: Richard Vander Haak of Holland, Minnesota; John Vander Haak, Orange City; Mrs. Nick Noteboom and Mrs. B. Baas, both of Hospers. Two children preceded their mother in death.

In addition to other relatives she is survived by 22 grandchildren.
