Died: December 9, 1917

Johannes Vander Haak, a Sioux County pioneer and a citizen of Orange City, died at his home in that city at the age of 78 years Saturday, December 9, from the infirmities of old age.

Deceased was a native of Friesland, Netherlands and came to this country in 1869 and settled in Pella, in Marion County. In 1874 he was married to Miss Lillie Sipma by Squire Koolbeek and settled on a homestead belonging to his wife and lived there until 1896 when they moved to Orange City.

He is survived by his wife and six children. The children who survive are: Mrs. W. Oort, Mrs. Nick Noteboom, Richard, Hannah and John at home and Mrs. B. Vaas.

Two of his sons, three son-in-laws and one grandson acted as pallbearers and the funeral was held at Orange City Tuesday afternoon from the Christian Reformed Church.
