Richard Vanden Berg, 71 of Sioux Center died Sunday, March 8, at Sioux Falls.

Funeral services are Wednesday, March 11, at 10 A.M. at First Christian Reformed Church, Sioux Center, the Reverend Harry Wiedenaar officiating.

Vanden Berg was born December 8, 1920, at Brooten, Minnesota. He married Marie Verhey August 23, 1943, at Dalhart, Texas. She died May 29, 1965. He served in the armed forces for 39 months from 1942 to 1945 and farmed in the Edgerton, Minnesota area for 15 years until 1960. He was a maintenance engineer in hospitals in Pipestone, Minnesota, and Sioux Center for 27 years. He married Helen Bootsma May 26, 1970. He moved to Sioux Center in 1977. He enjoyed being a part of the men’s society of the churches to which he belonged and enjoyed the Bible studies.

Survivors include his wife; seven sons: Richard Vanden Berg of Lansing, Illinois; Gary Vanden Berg of Luverne, Minnesota; Leslie Vanden Berg of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Merlyn Vanden Berg of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Doyle Vanden Berg of Shakopee, Minnesota; Ivan Vanden Berg of Alexandra, Minnesota; and Timothy Vanden Berg of San Diego, California; two daughters, Cornelia Lovell of Mesa, Arizona and Elizabeth Van Wielde of Grand Rapids; four step children: Corwin Boots, of Sanborn; Marlyn Bootsma of Woodstock, Minnesota; Arlis Bootsma of Sioux Center and Galen Bootsma of Melvin; four brothers: Arthur Vanden Berg of Worthington, Minnesota; James Vanden Berg of Brewster, Minnesota; Jacob Vanden Berg of Aurora, Colorado; and Lester Vanden Berg of Edgerton; three sisters: Grace Schult of Chesley, Ontario; Henrietta Elbers of Luverne and Johanna Sankey of Holland, Michigan; 23 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
