Nellie Vanden Berg, 83, of Hospers, Iowa, the mother of Stanley Vanden Berg of Ireton, died on Wednesday, January 3, 1996, at the Prairie View Home in Sheldon.

Memorial services were held on Saturday morning, January 6, 1996, at First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers, the Rreverend Mike McDonald officiating. Burial was in Hospers Cemetery prior to the service, under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Chapel in Hospers.

Mrs. Vanden Berg was born on January 29, 29, 1912, on a farm five miles north of Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Brouwer) Swets. She lived with her parents in Denver, Colorado, for a few years, and then moved to a farm northwest of Hospers. She attended rural school.

On January 18, 1940, she married Cornelius Vanden Berg at her family home. The couple farmed north of Sheldon and , for two years, north of Orange City. In 1944 they moved to a farm east of Hospers. In 1978 they retired and moved into Hospers. In 1933 they moved into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, and moved to Prairie View Home in Sanborn in 1994.

Mrs. Vanden Berg was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Hospers, where she served as organist for eight years. She was a member of the Priscilla Society.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Stanley and Beth of Ireton and Dennis and Jan of Hospers; two daughters and their husbands, Marlys and Jay Driesen of Pella and Shirley and Jim Grothers of Semi Valley, California; four sisters and their husbands, Wilma and Morris Mouw of Sheldon and Della Mae and John Kreykes, Kathryn and Gilbert Rensink and Evelyn and John Van Leeuwen, all of Hospers; 17 grandchildren.
