MRS. SUSAN WILDSCHUTZ PASSED AWAY---FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY FOR BELOVED WOMAN WHO DIED SUDDENLY

The community of Granville was shocked when it was learned that Mrs. Susan Wildschutz had passed on suddenly from heart failure last Thursday afternoon at her home there. She was alone at the time and her death was not discovered until five o’clock.

Her husband died 16 years ago while the children were still small and the support of the family fell entirely on her shoulders until the children were grown. Ten years ago her son Math went to Montana staked out a claim near Winnett, making a living by some farming and working for other ranchers. Then when the war broke out he entered the army and served about two years for Uncle Sam, returning to Montana after the war. An oil boom started out there soon after his return and upon drilling upon his place a great gusher was obtained by an oil concern. There are now about 22 wells on Math’s homestead near Winnett, the royalties from which make him a man of wealth. Since his good fortune he had supported his mother, buying her a fine home in Granville where she had all the luxuries of life she desired.

In the good fortune which came to her in the last few years of her life as in the hard times which had preceded it, Mrs. Wildschutz remained the same helper in times of sickness, always cheerful, a friend in time of need which had always marked her as a wonderful person. Not content with bringing up her own family she was an ever present help in time of sickness when help was needed in the neighborhood and the entire community grieves that she has been taken away.

Susan Wilbert was born March 16, 1867, and was aged 68 years, 5 months and 9 days at the time of her death. She was born at Kierchberg, Germany and was married there to Peter Wildschutz on March 9, 1892. They moved to the United States and to Granville the same spring and five children were born to them, all of whom survive the parents. Peter died April 12, 1908 and since that time the mother had been support of the family until the children were grown.

Besides the children, one brother and one sister, Mrs. Paul Basch, survive, both of whom live in Germany. The children are: Mrs. H. Ricke of Granville; Mathias W. Wildschutz of Lewistown, Montana; Mrs. Leo Goldschmidt of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Miss Genevieve Wildschutz of Marcus and August of Sioux City. There are eight grandchildren.

All the children were present at the funeral which was held at St, Joseph’s Catholic Church at Granville Monday morning. Reverend J.A. Gerlemann officiating.
