FRANCIS COON, FOOD BROKER, SUCCUMBS AT HOSPITAL HERE

Funeral services for Francis Coon if Sioux Falls, former Ireton resident, were held at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls last Friday with Dr. V.J. Madison in charge. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery.

Francis Coon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson N. Coon, was born at Ireton April 10, 1888. In 1903, he moved to Canton with his parents and in 1937 he moved to Sioux Falls. He was associated with the Jewett Brothers Wholesale Grocers in Sioux Falls. Later he left the Jewett Brothers firm and entered the food brokerage business with the Ward H. Patton Company. In 1927, he purchased Mr. Patton's interest in the business.

He was known in South Dakota as a rod-and reel sportsman and during the fishing and hunting season, Mr. Coon could be found wherever the sport was best. He was a member of the Methodist Church, the Mason Lodge, Occidental Consistory El Ried Tenple. He was also a Rotarian and a member of the Association of Manufactures representatives.

Surviving are his wife, Julia N. (Bucheister) Coon; son – Edward in the army, daughter – Mrs. Edwin Perkins of Chicago, Father Nelson of Sioux Falls, Brother – Claude Coon of Rapid City, South Dakota.
