PASSED AWAY IN CALIFORNIA

News reached Ireton Tuesday that Donald A. Wheeler, one of her old and respected citizens, who had been holding honored positions in this city, was a business man of good standing, and a friend and neighbor to be appreciated, had passed to his final reward at Long Beach, California, last Saturday.

Donald Alonzo Wheeler was born June 22, 1853 and died at Long Beach, California, March 22, 1919 having reached the age off 65 years and 9 months.

Mr. Wheeler was married on December 20, 1879, to Reppa Mae Grinnell and to this union eight children were born, two of them preceding the father in death. Those remaining are Judson of Ireton, Delbert of Le Mars, Mrs. Mabel Searle off near Hawarden, Mrs. Nell Wright of Ireton and Melvin and Edna, both at home.

Shortly after their marriage they moved to Kansas where they spent two years, coming to Sioux County in 1882, living on a farm north of town. In 1907 they moved to town where they made their home, Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler joining the Ireton Colony last fall at Long Beach, California. The climate there seemed to aggravate the disease which already had such a grip on him and only too sudden came the end. The body was shipped here, reaching Ireton Thursday and it was gently laid to rest the same day in cool mother earth.

The services were held at their home at 2:30 P.M., Reverend Neal Stewart in charge. The order of I.O.O.F. took charge at the cemetery and gave the last respects to the departed who had been one of their faithful members.

We express our deep sorrow with the bereaved in this their sad hour.
