Two of the saddest events that ever occurred in Calliope were, the deaths of Mrs. Ben Rummell on Wednesday and Mrs. (Minnie N.) George Wheeland Friday of last week from puerperal fever, both leaving infant babes only a few days old.

The remains of Mrs. Rummell were taken ...to Harden county for interment and the funeral of Mrs. Wheeland took place at Calliope Sunday. Interment was in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Sioux County, Iowa.

Messrs, Wheeland and Rummell were partners in the blacksmith business and for both to lose their wives within so short a time makes it doubly sad.

The bereaved husbands and relatives have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. Mr. Rummel's sister at Lake Preston, South Dakota, has taken his baby and Mr. Wheeland's mother will care for his infant.
