From the LeMars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, January 27, 1920:

HENRY CLAERBOUT PASSES AWAY
Had Been in Poor Health for Several Months Suffering From Cancer.

Henry Claerbout, a resident of LeMars for the past fifteen years, died at his home in this city on Saturday afternoon, following an illness of several months from cancer of the stomach. For the past six weeks he had been confined to his bed.

Henry Claerbout was 68 years old. He was born at Sheboygan, Wis., on October 7, 1851, and grew up in that locality and was married there to Miss Angeline Lensink. About thirty years ago he came to Iowa and lived at Hull and vicinity and came from there to LeMars.

Mr. Claerbout during his lifetime followed the occupation of farming, and also was engaged in the implement and furniture business for some years. He was successful in farming and in his business occupations and was a fine citizen, held in high esteem in the different communities where he lived. He was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years. He was a loving husband and father and a good neighbor and made many friends. He was interested in public affairs and for things that go for the betterment of the community.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and four daughters, who are Isaac Claerbout, Cedar Grove, Wis.; Mrs. John Dethmers, Edgerton, Minn.; Will Claerbout, Hull; Mrs. Gertrude Barnard, Sloan; John Claerbout, LeMars; Mrs. A. C. Kuyper, Orange City; Mrs. John Dunn, residing south of LeMars.

The funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian church, Rev. H. V. Comin officiating, this afternoon at 2 o’clock.

Zaterdag n.m. is te LeMars gestorven ten gevolge van kanker in de maag, Mr. H. Claerbout, in den ouderdom van 68 jaren, 3 maanden en 17 dagen. De overledene werd geboren tw Cedar Grove, Wis., waar hij 10 Dec. 1874, in het huwelijk trad met Angeline Lensink. In 1890 kwam het gezin naar Sioux Co. en vestigde zich te Hull, waar hij eerst zich aan het akkerbedrijf wijdde en later als handelaar in meubelen optrad. In 1908 verhuisde hij naar LeMars, omreden eenige van zijn kinderen zich aldaar hadden gevestigd.

TRANSLATION: Mr. H. Claerbout died in LeMars Saturday afternoon as a result of cancer of the stomach, aged 68 years, 3 months and 17 days. The deceased was born at Cedar Grove, Wis., where on 10 December 1874 he married Angeline Lensink. In 1890 the family came to Sioux County and settled at Hull, where he first devoted himself to agricultural pursuits and later was a furniture dealer. In 1908 he moved to LeMars, because some of his children had settled there.

His FindaGrave page shows him as having died 24 Jan 1920, buried in Memorial Cemetery, LeMars. His wife is Angeline Lensink Claerbout (1854-1934), and his three sons are listed: Isaac (1875-1936), William (1880-1969), and John (1884-1957).
