MRS. FRED WEGENER DIED EARLY SUNDAY--SHE HAD BEEN A PATIENT AT THE HULL HOSPITAL FOR ABOUT FOUR WEEKS FOLLOWING A FALL AT HOME

Mrs. Fred Wegener passed away early Sunday morning at the Hull Hospital where she had been a patient after breaking her hip in a fall at her home here in Hull.

Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at 1:00 o’clock from the home and at 1:30 from Zion Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Emma Wegener, one of three children born to Christian and Christina (Koop) Koster, was born at Plano, Illinois, on August 28, 1896. She was brought into covenant relationship with the Lord through the rite of Baptism according to Lutheran practice in the days of her early infancy.

Indications are that her parents resided in Chicago, Illinois, and Crawford County, Iowa, before coming to the Boyden vicinity during the early 80’s. coming the covered wagon route. In this community, then, the departed spent the remainder of her life. She attended instruction at St. Paul’s parish school preparatory to St. Paul’s membership on said church. She was received into full membership at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on April 14, 1884 by the rite of Confirmation of which church she was an active member up in the time of taking residence in Hull.

She was given in marriage to Fredrich Wegener on April 9, 1886 at Boyden. The young couple took up residence on a farm north of Hull, later to engage in active farming. Here they toiled until the year 1902, when they retired to Hull. This was done because of Mr. Wegener’s poor health. One daughter, Miss Ella, was born to this union. In Hull Mrs. Wegener was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church. A simple but confident faith was manifest in her words and actions.

As is natural, her health, too began to fail with age, and her robust statue vanished, slowly but surely. Due to the deep inroads her ailment had made, she could not conquer the bone fracture sustained in a fall in her home and in spite of the best medical care and loving ministration of her family and friends she marched peacefully toward her destination and departed this life on Sunday, December 30, 1945, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 2 days.

Mrs. Wegener leaves as mourners: her husband, Mr. Fred Wegener, Hull, daughter, Miss Ella, Hull, and a sister, Mrs. Funck, Sheldon and a number of other distant relatives and a large host of friends.
Her body will be laid to rest in Hope Cemetery from Zion Lutheran Church in Hull on January 3, 1946. A brief prayer service will be held at the home.

Her pastor, Reverend A.F. Zenk, will bring the message to the mourners and will also honor Mrs. Wegener with a German song she loved: “Haree Meine Seela.” Mrs. Walter Tiedemann will preside at the organ. Mr. Anthony Kooiker will sing a solo: “Jesus, Priceless Treasure” by Bach, accompanied by Miss Maybelle Reimann.

Acting as pallbearers will be: Arthur Stoehr, Fred W. Jantzen, Fred Helbing, Henry Beckmann, Gerrit Oostenink and Francis De Graaf. Clearbouts Funeral Service will be in charge.

The sincere sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the bereaved family in their hour of sorrow.
