RESPECTED PIONEER PASSES-----HENRI WEBER OF GRANVILLE PASSED AWAY MONDAY AT THE AGE OF 86 YEARS

Henry Webber, aged and highly respected citizen of Granville, passed away Monday night, May 21st, after a brief illness. He had been failing for some time, but his condition was not considered serious until May 8th, when his illness became more acute and two weeks later he passed on.

Mr. Webber was born on the 22nd of January 1837, at Ham, Alsace Lorraine, France. He was 86 years of age at the time of his death. He came to America in 1866, settling in Caledonia, Minnesota, and moved to Iowa in 1875, coming to O’Brien County on October 4, 1868, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Margaret (Meyer) Priviet. To this union five children were born. One died in infancy and four living are P.H. Webber of New York City, Nicholas W. Webber of Glenwood, Minnesota, Mrs. Herman Kramer of Dyersville, Iowa, and Mrs. George W. Clayton of Paullina. All of the children were at their father’s beside at his departure.

The family lived on a farm in O’Brien County until about 24 years ago, when they moved to Granville. Mr. Webber was one of the pioneers of this section and always took an active interest in the welfare of the community. He was a true and kindhearted husband and father, a splendid citizen, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him here. Mr. Webber was a devoted member of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by his aged beloved wife, the four children and two step-daughters, Mrs. Leonard Hill of Caledonia, Minnesota and Mrs. Herman Schwanke of Plankinton, South Dakota.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Church Thursday morning at nine o’clock, Reverend Father Gerlemann read the Requiem High Mass. A large attendance of friends was present for the departed friend. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.
