Mr. Gerrit Wegter passed away November 2, 1956, from the effects of a heart attack while working about the yard of his home Friday afternoon. He had reached the age of 70 years, 1 month and 27 days. He was born September 6, 1886, at Hospers, Iowa, the son of Egbert and Fanny Wegter.

He was united in marriage to Nellie Langstraat in Newkirk on February 18, 1910. To this union eight children were born, one of whom was stillborn. Mr. and Mrs. Wegter engaged in farming from the time of their marriage until 1945 when they moved to Boyden. Mr. Wegter had lived all of his life in Sioux County.

He leaves to mourn: his wife Nellie; four sons, Egbert and Pete of Hull, Wilbur of Sheldon, and Gerald of Archer; two daughters Johanna (Mrs. Vernon Ver Steeg) of Kenneth, Minnesota and Esther (Mrs. Lloyd Van't Hul) of Colton, South Dakota. Also 15 grandchildren; also one brother, John of Long Beach, California.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Fanny, and two brothers, Henry and Joe of Sheldon.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 6, 1956, with the Reverend Henri Steunenberg officiating. A double quartet sang "Going Down the Valley." Pallbearers were: John T. Smit and Peter J. DeGroot of Hull, Abe Vande Garde, Arie Bomgaars, John Landhuis and Peter Van Zee.
