From the Alton Democrat, February 16, 1934:

FRANK VAN BERGEN OF GRANVILLE PASSES ON

The Granville community was saddened by the passing of Frank Van Bergen, prominent resident for the past forty years. Deceased passed on at the St. Joseph hospital, Sioux City, Saturday evening, following an operation. He was 50 years of age. The widow and ten children survive.

Funeral services were held from St. Josephs church, Granville, Tuesday morning with Rev. J. Gerlemann officiating. Interment took place at St. Josephs cemetery.

FiindaGrave.com has Frank Peter Van Bergen, with a photo of his headstone (which just says Frank P. Van Bergen); born 8 Sep 1883 in LeMars, Iowa; died 10 Feb 1934 in Sioux City. Parents Julius Van Bergen (1847-1895) and Mary Ann Gerst Van Bergen (1843-1932). Siblings John Francis Van Bergen (1876-1961), Wilhelmina Katherine Van Bergen Schwarz (1878-1964), and Petronella Johanna Van Bergen Penning (1886-1969). Spouse Ida Marie Kuhl Van Bergen (1886-1945). An added note says they were married on September 18, 1908 in Sioux County, and lists their 10 children: Myrtle Mary (1908-1972), Clarence J. (1909-1956), Wilfred George (1911-1986), Viola Mae (1913-1975), Francis Charles (1914-1983), Margaret B. (1916-2010), Harold Dominic (1918-1983), Mary Ellen (1920-2010), Ruth E. (1923-2010), Richard (1928- ).

His death certificate has him as just Frank Van Bergen, and adds his occupation, barber, last worked January 1934; parents both born in Germany; died at 9 p.m. February 10, 1934; cause, pulmonary embolus, onset 2/10/34, atelectasis [collapse] of left lung, onset 2/10/34, and carcinoma of urinary bladder, duration 6 years. A cystotomy [surgical incision into the bladder] was performed on 2/6/34, establishing the diagnosis.
