Rev. Stegeman Died In Kansas Monday

Friends here have just received word that Rev. Wm. Stegeman, a former Ireton pastor, died suddenly at his home at Luctor, Kansas, last Monday, October 30. The message did not state the cause of his death but it was known that he had not been in the best of health for some time. He was 68 years of age, and leaves to mourn his departure the widow and four children, Edmund, Cornelia, Henrietta and Adrain.

Rev. Stegeman was pastor of the First Reformed church in Ireton for several years and was an active relief worker in the community during the period of the World War. About thirteen years ago he accepted a call to the First Reformed church at Luctor, Kansas, where he had since served his church. The deceased was an exceptionally fine man and had a host of admiring friends in this community.

Funeral services will be held for the deceased at the First Reformed church at Luctor on tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 3.

From the Hawarden Independent, November 9, 1933:

Former Ireton Pastor Expires

Friends of whom he had many, received word last week of the death of Rev. William Stegeman at his home in Luctor, Kan., Monday, Oct. 30th, and funeral services were held last Friday at the First Reformed church at Luctor. He had reached the age of 68 years. His health for some time had not been of the best and he had not been in active service of the church for a year or more.

Rev. Stegeman was pastor of the First Reformed church in Ireton for several years and while he and his family were residents here they won friends by the score. They were always interested in every movement of uplift and betterment, great social and community workers, great wielders of influence among church workers. He accepted a call to the First Reformed church at Luctor about 13 years ago and there wielded for good until placed on the retired list.

His good wife as well as the children, two boys and two girls, were equally active in church, school and community life and there are many here that will long remember their association with them. The sons, Edward and Abraham, are college graduates and filling a place as useful citizens where they live. The daughters, Cornelia, a school teacher, and Henrietta, a trained nurse, have been doing their part to make life worth while. We extend sincere sympathy to the widow and children in their bereavement.
