SUDDEN DEATH OF YOUNG MOTHER---MRS. JOSEPH THORMAN CALLED BEYOND

Mrs. Joseph Thurman (nee Elizabeth Reith) died very suddenly last week Tuesday, July 1, while at the doctor’s office in Wilmont, Minnesota. She had been suffering from high blood pressure but had gone to town in good spirits but a stroke came just after the physician had taken her blood pressure and she died immediately before aid could be rendered.

Mrs. Thorman was born in Remsen January 25, 1890, the daughter of the late Math. Reith who died June 10th, last year at the age of 80. She was married to Joseph Thorman on June 22, 1908 and the couple began farming near Granville where they remained several years. Then they moved to Madison, Minnesota, and later to Waverly but had farmed near Wilmont since 1919.

The mother is survived by her husband and 9 children. A little boy died in infancy about 13 years ago while the family lived at Waverly. The youngest child is less than two years of age. In the order of their ages the surviving children are namely: Catherine, Gertrude, Lillian, Leo, Agnes, Clarence, Ida, Robert, Anthony. She is also survived by her stepmother, Mrs. Math Reith and daughter, Elmira, and two brothers and two sisters as follows: Peter Reith of Granville and John Reith of Remsen; Mrs. Frank Holles and Mrs. Gregor Penning, both of Granville. Mrs. Thorman was the youngest of five children.

She was a wonderful mother and a most competent home maker and is missed by a great host of friends. She was a member of the Mother’s Society of the Wilmont Catholic Church whose members attended the service at the home in a body. Friends came from near and far to pay respects to her memory while the body lay in the home at Wilmont. Her passing was a shock to family, relatives, and friends who can scarcely yet believe that she has gone not to return.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Joseph’s Church at Granville on the morning of the nation’s birthday. Reverend J.A. Gerleman officiating at the Requiem High Mass. A large number of friends from the home community and neighboring parishes attended the sad rites.

The Democrat joins in deep sympathy of hundreds for the bereaved family.
