Dorothea Marie D. Thorman, 96, died Saturday, December 23 at Hiserote Riverview Manor, following a lengthy illness.

She had been a resident of Cherokee for the past 2 years, prior to moving to Cherokee, she had spent her entire life in Granville, Iowa. Services were held Tuesday, December 26, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Father Edward Hoffmann officiated with burial in the parish cemetery. Greenwood Funeral Home of Cherokee was in charge of arrangements.

Marie Bussanmus was born Juy 29, 1882 in Bevington, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bussanmus. On May 16, 1905, she was married to John Thorman in St. Mary’s , Iowa. She was a member of the Granville American Legion, Gold Star Mothers and the Christian Mothers Confraternity.

Survivors include one son, Max, Ruthven, Iowa; 3 daughters, Mrs. Edward (Julia) Feller, Apple Valley, California, Mrs. Robert (Cecelia) Shuckman, Lincoln, Nebraska and Mrs. Della George, Cherokee. Also one brother, Felt Bussanmus, Des Moines, one sister, Mrs. William Frye (Agnes), Des Moines; 27 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1947; one son, John, who was killed in action in Pearl Harbor, 1941; one daughter Dorothy Johnson, 1969, and 9 brothers and sisters.
