Mrs. Floris Tiemersma, 86, nee Willemina “Willemke” Tiemersma, 86, nee Wilma Heemstra, passed away at her home in Orange City at 3:00 .M. after an hour’s illness following a heart attack.

Mrs. Tiemersma was born in Friesland, the Netherlands on March 27, 1864. She was married to Mr. Floris Tiemersma in the Netherlands three years before coming to the United States. Two weeks before they sailed their infant daughter of 18 months died.

Coming to America they settled in Sioux County in this vicinity where they continued until 1900 when they filed a claim in Emmons Country, North Dakota. They lived in a sod hut there for eight years and then moved to Bemis, South Dakota. After two years they moved to Orange City to an acreage west of town. They retired in 1938.

The departed is survived by her husband and children: Bessie, Mrs. Bert J. Vander Brake and Harry Tiemersma, both of Orange City and Isaac Tiemersma of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Three children preceded her in death, an infant daughter in the Netherlands, an infant son, and Marion who died in 1934 while on duty at Fort Snelling Hospital in Minneapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Tiemersma celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last May 27th.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City with Reverend Bronkema officiating. Interment was made in the Orange City Cemetery. The Van Etten Funeral service had charge of the arrangements.
