JOHN B. TIEDEMAN BURIED AT ST. PAUL’S CEMETERY

John B. Tiedeman, well known Rock Rapids resident, died Wednesday at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. He had been hospitalized for some 10 days and had undergone surgery--but failed to rally.

Services were held in Rock Rapids Saturday afternoon at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Reverend G.D.A. Engelhardt officiated. Mrs. Richard Eder was organist, and Mrs. G.D.A. Engelhardt was a soloist as was Dalbert Newborg.

Following the services at Rock Rapids interment was made at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Hull. Lockwood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were George Eihausen, William Nagel, William Peterson, John Fick, Richard Wittrock and Fred Vogel.

John Berend Tiedeman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Behrend Tiedeman. He was born at Geversdorf, Hanover, Germany, on December 26, 1881. When he was only two and a half years old, his parents brought him to this country and they came immediately to the Hull community, where they went to farming. Mr. Tiedeman grew to manhood here and continued farming until 1938, when he moved to Rock Rapids to make his home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emma (Lutjens) Tiedeman; three sons, Berend, Ferdinand and Hubert, all of the Hull community; and three daughters, Bertha, Mrs. Ivan Anderson, Doon; Lorie Etta, Mrs. Arnold Olson, Rock Rapids, and Dorothy, Mrs. Hubert McCormack of Rock Rapids. Also surviving are twenty-three grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Henry Tiedeman of Hull, and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Kruse of Lake Wilson, Minnesota and Mrs. Marie Bunge of Peoria, Illinois.

Mr. Tiedeman was always interested in flowers and kept his yard on Union Street in Rock Rapids, one of the nicest in town. In recent weeks he had been supervising the building of a new home on South Fifth Avenue, Rock Rapids.

Mr. Tiedeman had been especially active as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Church Brotherhood. During the building of the new church in Rock Rapids, he was a member of the church council and also of the building committee. He was one of the large contributors to the building fund.
