“Did hangman do the hanging,” was the question asked yesterday morning as the news spread from house to house that the remains of farmer John Thiessen who resided five miles southwest of Hull, had been found early on that morning, suspended by a rope from a rafter of his dwelling house, near the floor, and a close investigation of the affairs fails to satisfactory answer the inquiry. Up to this hour nothing positive can be learned in regard to the sad and clouded mystery. This much is known however, that the lifeless form of John Thiessen was found in the manner above mentioned by his hired man who, with the assistance of neighbors, took the body down and hastily coffined it. Neighbors nor relatives attempt to give or assign any cause why Thiessen should take his own life; and then our reporter tried to get the particulars, could only learn John was dead, and was elbowed aside by someone who seemed pressed for time. How John Thiessen met his death will in all probability be shrouded in mystery.

A searching investigation of this matter would work injury to no one. Will it be done?

John Thiessen was a German extraction; about 46years old and had resided with his wife in that vicinity for more than two years, and who was absent from her home receiving medical treatment at the time.

A confirmed report comes to us that on the day previous Mrs. John Thiessen made an unsuccessful attempt to destroy her own life by taking a quantity of Paris green at the home of her sister, Mrs. Gus Wese, who resides but three miles away. Dr. N.G.O. Coad of this city prescribed for her, and she is now on the road to recovery.
