Mrs. John Thelen, 82, of Granville died Saturday at an Orange City Hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Granville. The Reverend Edward Hoffman officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Mrs. Thelen, the former Appolonia Susan "Pauline" Oswald, was born October 8, 1895, in Mount Carmel. She was married January 17, 1923, in Mount Carmel. The couple farmed in the Breda and Estherville areas, moving to Granville in 1932.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Granville, the Christian Mothers, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Church Guild.

Survivors include the widower; four sons, Julius of Santa Clara, California, Erwin of St. Charles, Missouri, Marvin of Remsen and James of Le Mars; two daughters, Miss Madonna Thelen of Iowa City and Mrs. Ray (Betty) Warren of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Marcellus of Breda; a sister, Miss Frances Oswald of Carroll; 20 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
