Mrs. Anthony (Frances) Theis, age 90, of Hospers died Saturday, November 16, 1996 at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 20 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers. Reverend James Tigges officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Frances was born on May 24, 1906 at rural Parkston, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Frances (Kopel) Thole. In 1911 she moved with her family to the Luxembourg, Minnesota area where she was raised and educated. In the mid 1930s she moved to the Hospers area where she did domestic work. She married Anthony P. Theis on November 14, 1939 at Luxembourg, Minnesota. They farmed near Hospers until retiring and moving into town in 1966. Mr. Theis died March 16, 1969. Frances had been a resident of Brentwood since July 26, 1996.

Mrs. Theis was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Church Guild and Christian Mothers, all of Hospers.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands: Pauline and Richard D. Harpenau of Remsen and Mary Ann and Kenneth Kunkel of Le Mars; two sons, Merlin and his wife Maxine Theis and LeRoy Theis, all of Hospers; 16grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Josephine and her husband Paul Kockler, Leona and her husband Harold Burns and Evelyn Thole, all of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Bertha and her husband John Connolly of San Ramon, California; two brothers and their wives: Edmund and Eleanor Thole of Ashton and Al and Fern Thole of Eden Valley, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Raymond (Florence) Thole of Ashton.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Theis; four brothers, Joseph Thole in infancy, Bernard, Clarence and Raymond Thole; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Theis.
