Mrs. Lorene Van Schepen, 75, of Hull, passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. There was a funeral service on Thursday, Sept. 25, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Carl Klompien officiated.

Lorene Bertha was born July 8, 1928, in rural Armour, S.D., the eldest daughter of Gerrit and Dora (Vanden Hoek) De Vries. She was baptized in the Harrison, S.D., Christian Reformed Church and attended country school and Western Christian High School in Hull. She then worked various places, including the Hull Hospital.

On June 25, 1947, she married Donald Chris Van Schepen at Luverne, Minn. They made their home in Hull, where she was a homemaker. "Don" passed away Feb 6, 2003, in Sioux Falls, S. D. Mrs. Van Schepen was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. She taught Friendship Bible classes for 10 seasons, until she needed medical care. She enjoyed woodworking and refinishing old furniture. Her greatest joy was loving and caring for her family. She recorded her grandchildren's growing-up years through many scrapbooks and photo albums.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Diane and Calvin Stam of Oskaloosa; two sons and their wives, Clark and Lavonne (Korthals) Van Schepen of Boyden, and Virgil and Jerlene (Mars) Van Schepen of Maurice; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Rick Fountain; Nathaniel Stam; Erin and her husband, Calvin Meinders; Caleb Stam; Anita and her husband, Shannon Van Wyk; Chad Van Schepen and his wife, Keri; Clint Van Schepen and his wife, Kimberly; Lonny Van Schepen; Christopher Van Schepen; Daniel Van Schepen; Joseph Van Schepen; and Adam Van Schepen and his fiance', Amy Vande Vegte; two greatgrandsons, Christopher and Luke Meinders; two step-grandchildren, Kenny and Bethany Fountain; two sisters and their husbands, Anna Mae (Tamminga) and Frank Buys of Hudsonville, Mich., and Emily and Alvin Isakson of Puyallup, Wash.; a brother, Leonard De Vries of Corsica, S. D., and a sister-in-law, Pat De Vries of Ontario, Calif.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Erwin De Vries, and a sister-in-law, Ruby De Vries. Memorials are being directed to the Hull Christian School and Sioux County Hospice.
