Donald Van Schepen Mr. Donald Van Schepen, age 80, of Hull, passed away Thursday, February 6, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. There was a funeral service on Monday, February 10, at l:30pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Carl Klompien officiated. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery in Hull. The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull made arrangement.

Donald Chris was born February 13,1922, on an acreage near Ireton, the son of Chris and Johanna (Wynia) Van Schepen. When he was three years old, his family moved to a farm northwest of Boyden. He attended the Boyden Christian School and a country school. As a boy, he worked for area farmers. As a young adult, he worked on construction in Iowa and projects for government defense in Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Richmond, Kentucky. He entered the military in February of 1943; training for the Air Force at McGord Field in Tacoma, Washington. He later transferred to the 30th Infantry Division North Carolina and was injured in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart for duty in the European Theatre of Germany, Belgium, and Holland.

On June 25, 1947, "Don" married Lorene Bertha De Vries at Luverne, Minnesota. They made their home in Hull, where he operated the Hull Body Shop, Later he was employed as a rural mail carrier, retiring from the Post Office on March 3, 1993. On January 13, 2003, he was admitted to the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Mr. Van Schepen was; a member of the First Christian Reformed Church. He served many years on the Hull Volunteer Fire Department. He found great joy in the companionship of his family.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lorene; three children and their spouses, Diane and Calvin Stam, of Oskaloosa; Clark and LaVonne (Korthals) Van Schepen, of Boyden; and Virgil and Jerlene (Mars) Van Schepen, of Maurice; twelve grandchildren, one great-grandson; a sister, Suzanna Vande Weerd, of Rock Rapids; and a brother, Melvin Van Schepen, of Hull.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Louis, and Clarence. Memorials are being directed to the Hull Christian School
