JOHN D. TECHEN LAID TO REST ON SATURDAY

Mr. John D. Techen, who was born at Hull, August 29, 1882, passed away at the Sioux Center Hospital January 1, 1964.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4th, from St. Paul Lutheran Church with A.H. Fritschel officiating. Pallbearers were Peter Delire, Fred Jantzen, John Haveman, Thomas Mulder, Arthur Stoehr and Donald Tiedemann. Interment was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Hull, Iowa. Arrangements by Kraai Funeral Home.

John Diedrich Techen, son of Fred and Augusta Techen, was born in Lincoln Township, Sioux County, Iowa, on August 29, 1882. As an infant he was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church and through this washing of regeneration was made a child of God and an heir to His eternal kingdom. In his youth he was thoroughly instructed in the principle teachings of Holy Scripture and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith by Pastor Ackermann, who was the pastor of this congregation at that time.

On April of 1906 he was united in holy wedlock with Miss Bertha Jaster at St. Peter, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with two daughters--Mabel and Lillian. Both his wife and the oldest daughter preceded him to eternity.

Since 1955 he had made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kaster.

During the past December he was taken ill with the influenza which developed into pneumonia. He was taken to the Community Hospital at Sioux Center on December 22. To correct an ailment of long standing, he submitted to surgery on last Tuesday morning. He seemed well on the way to recovery, when on Wednesday morning he suffered a coronary thrombosis from which he died almost immediately at half past nine o’clock in the morning.

John Techen was a honored, respected citizen of this community all his life. He was likewise a life long member of this St. Paul Lutheran congregation at various times as a member of the church council.

He leaves to mourn his death, his daughter, Mrs. Herman Kaster, and one brother, Henry Techen, both of this community, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as a large host of other relatives and friends.

John Techen reached the age of 81 years 4 months, and 2 days. May he rest in peace, saved by grace.
