Mrs. Anna Van Der Schaaf, age 91, of Hospers, passed away Saturday, June 11, at her residence in Hospers. Anna was born Dec. 13, 1896, at Roseland, 111., the daughter of Thomas Schaafsma and Anna Talsma Schaafsma. At the age of 12, she moved with her family to the Hospers area. On Dec. 17, 1919, she married Louis J. Van Der Schaaf at Hospers. They farmed near Newkirk. Mr. Van Der Schaaf passed away June 13, 1946, at Newkirk. She continued to live on their farm until 1960 when she moved to California where two of her sons lived. In 1962 she made her home with her daughter in Minneapolis, Minn., and in 1964 she moved to Hospers. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hospers.
Survivors include her six children, Mrs. Tom (Gertrude) Kirkpatrick of Gardena, Calif., Mrs. Ring (Anna Beth) Kleinhesselink of Mesa, Ariz., Donna of Minneapolis, Joe of Houston, Tex., Thomas of Gardena, and Gerrit L. of Hospers, 15 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by another son named Joe, at the age of five, and two brothers, Cornelius and Richard Schaafsma. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 15 at the First Presbyterian Church of Hospers with the Rev. Brian V. Janssen officiating. Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
