Martha Stuit, 86, of Hospers, died Tuesday, July 2, 1996 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 at the Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. The Reverend Mike McDonald officiated. Burial was held prior to the service at 10:30 in the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Hospers.

Martha was born December 8, 1909 near Granville, the daughter of Sam and Jennie (Wykstra) Pott. She attended Hospers Christian School. On February 7, 1934 she married Ralph Stuit in Hospers. The couple farmed near Hospers until 1971 when they moved into Hospers. Mr. Stuit died October 26, 1976. She entered the nursing home on December 27, 1994.

Mrs. Stuit was a member of the Hospers Christian Reformed Church and the Priscilla Society. She was a willing worker in the church and Christian School activities.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Alvin and Julie of Hospers; two daughters, Janice and her husband, Junior Poppema of Hospers, and Sandra Stuit of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four sisters, Gertie Cuperus of Hull, Wilma Modderman of Ripon, California; Alice Byker of Rock Rapids, and Christine Mennning of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Peter and Thelma Pott of Sheldon; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.
