William Swearingen, one of the first settlers in Hawarden and a character in this city for many years, died at the home of his daughter in Canon City, Colorado, September 9.

In 1857 he was married to Susan Baker and they had a family of six children. Susan passed away in 1893.

William Swearingen was laid to rest at Grace Hill Cemetery, Sioux County, Iowa.

The Independent is without further particulars regarding his demise.
