Funeral Saturday at Doon For Mrs. Barbara Van Den Oever, age 87
Funeral services were held Saturday in Doon for Mrs. Barbara Van Den Oever, Mrs. Van Den Oever, who lived in Doon for the past 21 years, died at her home there early Wednesday morning. She was 87. The Rev Jacob Van Mantgem officiated at the services Special music was provided by Mrs. Don Boscaljon and Mrs. Ed Abma who sang ‘Safe in the Arms of Jesus’. Organist was Mrs. Kenneth De Groot. Burial was in Hope Cemetery at Hull under the direction of the Porter Funeral home of Rock Valley. Bearers were John C. top, John Top, William Burggraaf, James Burggraaf, Peter Van Den Oever, and Ken Van Den Oever. Mrs. Van Den Oever, the former Barbara Brouwer, was born at Pella on June 28, 1881, a daughter of Foppe and Ada DeBoer Brouwer. On Feb 12, 1903 she married Peter Van Den Oever at Rock Valley, who died in 1939.
Surviving are nine children John of George; Ada Mrs. Pete Burggraaf of Inwood; Cynthia and Fred both of Doon; Andrew of Stickney SD, Katie, Mrs. Clarence Top of Valley Springs SD; Rena Mrs. Ralph Top of Princeton MN; Henry of Rock Valley;; and Peter of Holland MI. Also surviving are 42 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
