PATRICK STEPHENS PASSED AWAY SUNDAY

Patrick Stephens, a resident of Rock Valley for many years, passed away Monday morning. He was in his usual health the evening before his death, although had not been well for some time, and had not been able to walk downtown for about three years. Prior to that it was his custom to walk down town and spend most of the forenoon each day of the week.

Monday morning, his brother, William Stephens went to his home as was his custom each day and found him dead in bed. Patrick Stephens, who had attained the age of seventy-eight years, was born near Belfast, Ireland, where he grew to manhood. About sixty-five years ago, he came to this country. He resided in Pennsylvania for ten years and while there worked in a coalmine. Later he moved to Wisconsin where he lived seven years, and then onto a farm nine miles northwest of Rock Valley where he lived until moving to Rock Valley about twenty-nine years ago.

Mr. Stephens is survived by three brothers and one sister, William and John Stephens, of Rock Valley, and Tom Stephens of Burlington, Washington, and Mrs. Matt Walpole of Rock Valley.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church in Rock Valley on Thursday morning and the remains were taken to St. Mary’s Cemetery for burial.
