Death Follows long Illness – Mrs. Fred Dirks passed away Monday evening.

Mrs. Fred Dirks passed away at 7 o'clock Monday evening at her home in this city following a long illness from malignant heart trouble. For the past four months she had been bedfast and death came as a relief to her great suffering. Funeral services were held at the Dirks home at 12:45 this afternoon with Rev. Geo. Steinkamp, pastor of the Lutheran church, in charge. The remains were then taken to the Grant township Lutheran church in Plymouth county where services were held and interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery at that place.

Emma Catherine Renken was born in Grant township, Plymouth county, April 15, 1896, and passed away June 2,1930, at the age of 34 years, 1 month and 17 days. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Grant township on March 20, 1910. She was united in marriage with Fred Dirks Dec. 5,1917. Following her marriage she resided at Brunsville for nearly ten years. The family then moved to LeMars where she resided a short time. She came to Hawarden Jan. 1, 1929, when her husband engaged in the hardware business in this city.

She is survived by her sorrowing husband and one daughter Marian, aged 9. She also leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Mrs. J. Renken of LeMars; four brothers, Herman, Gerrit and George Renken of LeMars and J. W. Renken of Craig and four sisters, Mrs. Rank Oetken, Mrs. Conrad Gerritts, Mrs. Wm. Gerritts and Mrs. Arthur Voss, all of Akron.
