FRED DIRKS FUNERAL HELD MONDAY
Funeral services were held for Fred George Dirks on Monday, April 13, 1970 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church,. Ireton with Pastor A. Anacker officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton under the. Direction of Dow Funeral Home.

He was born at Ireton, Iowa, June 10, 1896. In 1915, he was united in marriage to Margaret Renken. They farmed near Chester, South Dakota the first three years of their married life, the next 21 near Ireton, then five near Chatsworth, then returning to the Ireton area for eight years before retiring and moving to Hawarden in 1953. During the past year he experienced failing health and was hospitalized for a short time this past February. On April 8 he became very ill and was taken to the Hawarden Community Hospital where he passed away on April 9 at the age of 73 years.

Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons, Darrel of Canoga Park, California, and Carlyle of Orange City; 5 daughters, Mrs. Ed Burleson (Mildred)of Placerville, California; Mrs. Arthur Albright (Reva) of Hinton, Iowa; Mrs. Vernon Howard (Myrna) of Sioux City; Mrs. Albert Eilers (Pearl) of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Scott Busch (Delia) of Broomfield, Colorado; 27 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother, Richard of Le Mars. One son, Howard, seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

During the services Mrs. Vernon Eilts was the organist and Mrs. Allen Bertram sang "I Am Content" and "Heaven Is My Home," The Honorary casket bearers were Eldo Degen, Louis Goodmanson, Fred Johnson, John Vlotho, Lawrence Van Wyhe, and William Van Wyhe, The active casket bearers were Robert Dirks, Clifford Dirks, Harold Dirks, Henry Dirks, LeRoy Dirks, and Art Qltmans,
