Mrs. Johannes "John" Sterkenburg (nee) Aaltje "Alice" Jasper was born September 11, 1858 in Nyenga, Friesland, the Netherlands and died in her home Sunday, October 15, 1939 at 1:30 p.m. in Rock Valley, Iowa, at the age of eighty-one years, one month and four days.

She was united in marriage to Johannes "John" Sterkenburg in 1 June 1884 and came to this country with her family in January of 1915.

To this union were born five children, two daughters, Aaltje, Mrs. Hendrik Hystek, still in the Netherlands; Hiltje, Mrs. G.J. Van Voorst of Sioux Center; and three sons, Hendrik of Madison, South Dakota, John of Colton, South Dakota and Johannes who is in the Army Air Corps.

All of her children, her husband, fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her.

Funeral services were held in the home at 12:30 and 2:00 in the Netherlands Reformed Church with Reverend J. Vander Hoef officiating on Wednesday. Interment was made at Valley View Cemetery.
