Johannes Sterkenburg who was ill with pneumonia for several days passed away on Tuesday February 13, 1940 at Rock Valley.

Mr. Sterkenburg was born in the Netherlands over eighty years ago and was married on June 1, 1884 to Alice Jasper. Mr. Sterkenburg and family came to this country in 1915 locating at Rock Valley.

Mr. Sterkenburg is survived by three sons and two daughters, John of Colton, South Dakota, Hendrik of Madison, South Dakota, Johannes in the Army Air Corps, Hiltje, Mrs. G.J. Van Voorst, Sioux Center and Aaltje living in the Netherlands. Fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral service were held Friday afternoon at the Netherlands Reformed Church conducted by Reverend John Vander Hoef and burial was beside his wife, who died on October 15, 1939, in the Valley View Cemetery.
