Catherine Steichen, 18 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Steichen of Remsen, died suddenly at the Le Mars Hospital Friday from an unknown cause after only one day’s illness. She was employed at Hammer’s Café.

Miss Steichen was born May 4, 1935, daughter of Nick and Katie (Krantz) Steichen on the Steichen farm near Alton and moved with her parents to Remsen in 1941. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Remsen in 1953.

The many Alton friends join in sympathy for the untimely passing of this lovely young girl, who was a favorite with all.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Six classmates acted as pallbearers.

Survivors include her parents; eight brothers: Arnold of Remsen, Arthur and Matthew of Cedar Rapids, Francis of the U.S. Navy, Alphonse of Maurice, Raymond and Leo of Tappen, North Dakota and Clarence of Emery, South Dakota; nine sisters: Mrs. Ed Thill and JoAnn of Remsen, Mrs. Orman Lux of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Roy Glassmaker of Cleghorn, Mrs. David Coco, Sacramento; Mrs. Leonard Keinert, Mrs. S. Dietermann, Mrs. H. Utesch, Le Mars, Mrs. Al Biever, Alton.
