BEN A. STALLMAN GRANVILLE BANKER--CALLED BY DEATH

Ben A. Stallman,59, passed away Saturday morning, January 8, at 8:00 o’clock at the hospital in le Mars following a lingering illness.

Mr. Stallman was born March 23, 1906, at Iona, Minnesota. He attended St. Joseph’s School, Ashton, Loras College, Dubuque, and Trinity College, Sioux City.

On August 13, 1931, he married Nina Grace Barnes at what was then St. Mary’s Church but now Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ashton. Some thirty years ago they moved to Granville where he became manager of the Granville Branch of the Hospers Savings Bank and was elected a vice-president of the Hospers Bank.

Mr. Stallman was town treasurer of Granville, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Eagles and a faithful member of St. Joseph’s parish, Granville.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Church, Granville, Tuesday morning, January 11, at 10:00 o’clock, Reverend N.J. Becker officiating at the Requiem Mass, with burial at the parish cemetery. Fisch Funeral Home in charge. Rosary was recited at the funeral home in Remsen Sunday evening and at Spalding Hall, attended by members of the Knights of Columbus, at 8:00 o’clock Monday evening.

He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter (Angeline), Mrs. James J. Klein of Granville and Ted Stallman of Sheldon, by six grandchildren, three sisters--Sisters M. Barnaba, M. Elizabeth and M. Theonilla, all of Carroll, and by two brothers, Leo of Ashton and A.L. of Rogers, Minnesota.

Pallbearers were Arnold Muehl, Arnold Nemmers, Joe Neuroth, A.J. Schemmel, Leo Hemmen and Wayne Delperdang, all of Granville.

Mr. Stallman served as precinct chairman of the Democratic Party at Granville and was active and influential in the party councils. He was respected and honored for his long service to his community
