Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Sanborn First Reformed Church at 1:30 for John Spykerman, 95, who passed away Monday in the Hartley Hospital after residing in a nursing home for the past six years.

He was born in The Netherlands and came with his parents, Klaas and Aaltje (Roo) Spykerman to the United States at the age of 16 years, settling near Hospers. In 1898 he was married to Elsie Krikke at Orange City, and they farmed north of Granville, moving to Sanborn in 1935.

Surviving are four sons, Nick and Albert of Holland, Michigan, Charles and Gerrit of Sanborn, three daughters, Mrs. Herman Oldenkamp of Hull, Mrs. Paul Kuyers of Holland, Michigan, Mrs. Leo Walking of Crookston, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. His wife passed away in 1953. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn.
