From De Volksvriend, October 6, 1921:

TRANSLATION:

The P. Kleinjan family went to Sheldon on Monday to pay tribute to the remains of Mr. John Den Hartog, brother of Mrs. Kleinjan, and [who] formerly lived here with his parents. The deceased had ill been for a long time with stomach cancer, for which he underwent surgery last year, which, however, only helped him for a short time. Fortunately he did not suffer any pain. He had reached the age of 62 years and 8 months, and leaves behind, along with his wife, 3 young children. Our sympathy is with the mourners and particularly with the 86-year-old father Hymen Den Hartog, who is also suffering from the same ailment, and is lovingly cared for in the home of his children, Mr. and Mrs. P. Kleinjan. The old father has to endure a lot of pain.
