John Sorgdrager, 76, was born in The Island of Ter Shelling in 1865 and died Monday afternoon May 11 after a lingering illness. When a young lad he came with his parents to the United States and first lived at Eldora, Iowa, later in Grinnell and with his parents were among the early settlers of Alton where they homesteaded in east Alton.

He was married in 1904 to Dena De Boer of Orange City. To this union two sons were born, Ednor of Alton and John who preceded him in death at the age of ten years.

Also besides the widow, son Endor and his wife, there are three grandchildren and five step children: Walter of Joplin, Missouri, Lawrence of Ivanhoe, Minnesota, Henry and Edward of El Paso, Texas and Mrs. Marion Schultz of Minneapolis. Also two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 4 P.M. Thursday, in charge of Reverend Mr. Tinkelenberg.
