MRS. A.P. SORGDRAGER PASSES TO LAST RITES--DIED SANTURDAY OF PNEUMONIA AFTER ONLY TWO DAYS ILLNESS--84 YEARS OLD--SIX CHILDREN SURVIVE--MEMBER OF ALTON REFORMED CHURCH FOR 43 YEARS--BORN IN HOLLAND

Mrs. Andreas P. Sorgdrager died after a short illness of two days from pneumonia, at her home in Alton Saturday evening, November 12, 1921. Her many friends were greatly shocked to learn of the sad news of her sudden death.

Mrs. Kyke Hek ”Hock” Sorgdrager was born in the Netherlands, May 20, 1837 and had reached the age of 84 years, 5 months and 23 days at the time of her passing. She came to this country with her husband and two children in 1873, locating at Ackley, Eldora, and Grinnell before coming to East Orange (now Alton) in Sioux County. They located on a farm at the southeast edge of Alton passing through all the hardships of the pioneer days and later accumulating a comfortable fortune. Eight children were born to them of whom seven are living. The children are as follows: John, Mrs. John Van Nimwegen, Cornelius and Dorris of Alton, Andrew of Sioux City and Mary of Cherokee. In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Sorgdrager retired from the farm locating in south Alton where they passed the remainder of their lives. Her husband preceded Mrs. Sorgdrager to the Great Beyond some ten years ago.

For over forty years Mrs. Sorgdrager has been a devoted member of the Reformed Church of Alton, joining in 1878. She was also a member of the Ladies Foreign Mission Society. She was of quiet disposition, a kind and loving Christian mother, who will be greatly missed by her children and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Reformed Church at Alton at 2:00 o’clock P.M. Tuesday, preceded by a service at the home. Reverend J.P. De Jong of the Reformed Church and Reverend George Bray of the Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was in the Nassau Township Cemetery. Many from here and elsewhere came to show their last respects to the departed friend.
