Mary M. Spieler, 98, of Granville, Iowa passed away Friday, February 23, 2007 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center, Remsen, Iowa.

Mary was born January 27, 1909 at Granville, Iowa, the daughter of George and Margaret (Schwarz) Schmidt.

Mary was raised in Granville where she received her education at St. Joseph Catholic School. She then did domestic work in the Granville area. On April 23, 1955 she married Jake Spieler at Granville. They made their home near Granville where they were engaged in farming. In 1975 they retired and moved into Granville. Jake died February 29, 1984.On February 1, 1995 she entered Happy Siesta where she was crowned Valentine Queen in 2003.

Funeral services was 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Reverend Richard D. Ball officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Granville Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa was entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces

Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Church Guild. She was an avid sewer and liked to do embroidery work. She loved to watch sporting events on T.V. and especially baseball.

Casket bearers were Tim Bindner, Hilary Klein, Darly Penning, Gordon Schneider, Denny and Lyle Spieler.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and their wives, John and Theresa, Herman and Betty, Bill and Bertha, Joe and Bea, Al and Violet, Leo and Bertha, Clarence and Anne Schwarz; one sister, Rose and her husband Ted Jackson.

Visitation was any time after 4:00 P.M. on Monday. There will be a rosary at 5:00 P.M. by St. Joseph’s Guild and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 P.M. all at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville.
