MRS. SONGSTAD PIONEER DIES

A Sioux Falls resident for the past 63 years, Mrs. Caroline Anderson Songstad, 86, died at the home of her son, Elmer, 1630 East Bennett Street, Thursday night following an illness of eight years.

Funeral services will be held at the East Side Lutheran Church at 2 P.M. Tuesday, with the Reverend Harry R. Gregerson officiating. Mrs. T.C. Thompson will be the organist. Interment will be in the family lot in Settler Township Cemetery near Inwood, Iowa.

Born in Bergen, Norway, February 1, 1865, Mrs. Songstad grew up there and was married to Nels S. Songstad, April 12, 1887. Two weeks later, Mr. and Mrs. Songstad came to the United States and settled in Sioux Falls.

Mr. Songstad died in 1904. A son and a daughter also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Songstad was a member of the East Side Lutheran Church. She had been an invalid since January, 1943.

Surviving are sour sons, Martin, Elmer, Clarence and Alfred, all of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The body will lie in state at the Banton Funeral Home until time of services.
