Paul John Sohl was born on August 18, 1901, in Brooklyn, New York, the oldest of eight children to Henry and Meta (Ahrens) Sohl. He moved with his family to northwest Iowa when he was five years old and he lived and worked most of his life in Lyon and Sioux Counties.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Hull. On February 11, 1927 he was united in marriage to Elsie Breuer and to this union six sons were born.

Survivors are: his wife, Elise of George; six sons: Robert of Denver, Iowa; Alvin of George; Donald of Excelsior, Minnesota; Kenneth of Doon, Iowa; and Harold and Lawrence, both of Hull, Iowa. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Mrs. Maggie Breuer of Hull; his stepmother, Mrs. Anna Sohl of Hull; two brothers: Louis of Hull and Alfred of George; three sisters: Mrs. August Breuer of St. Paul; Mrs. Martin Woelber of Sheldon; and Alfred Riebeling of Ashton; a stepsister, Mrs. Louis Hinsch of George; four stepbrothers: Albert and Elmer of Luverne, Minnesota; Art of Weeping Water, Nebraska; and Vernon Schmidt of Willmar, Minnesota; and eleven grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Helen and one brother Ernest and a half-sister, Henrietta Behrens.
