From the Hawarden Independent, January 5, 1939:

Death Claims Infant Son

Daniel J., infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John Donovan, who reside on the McNally farm, ten miles southeast of Hawarden, died Tuesday noon [Jan. 3] from pneumonia. The little babe contracted influenza four or five days earlier which developed into pneumonia. He was born October 11, 1938, so was not yet three months of age. Besides his parents, there are seven other children in the family, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of all in their loss.

Funeral services were held at the Ross Funeral Home at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Robert F. Chapler in charge. Music was provided by the Junior choir of the Methodist church. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

His death certificate has Daniel Jabin Donovan, born Oct. 11, 1938 in Hawarden; parents John Donovan and Alice Fitzpatrick, both born in Missouri; died at 12 p.m. January 3, 1939 of broncho-pneumonia and influenza.
