TED DOORENBOS
April 11, 1912 – Dec. 6, 2001

BOYDEN—Theodore “Ted” Doorenbos, 89, Boyden, died Thursday, Dec. 6, at George Good Samaritan Center. Services were Monday, Dec. 10, at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, with the Rev. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden.

Ted Doorenbos, son of John and Winnie (Bleeker) Doorenbos, was born April 11, 1912, on the family farm near Boyden. He attended Capel Township No. 1 Country School. He married Olive Schafer on Feb. 17, 1937, in rural Boyden. They farmed near Boyden until he retired in 1978, and they moved to a different farmhouse near Boyden.

He was a resident of George Community Good Samaritan Center for one week. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Boyden and Calvary Baptist Church in Sheldon.

He enjoyed fishing trips with his family, loved traveling and had visited all of the 50 states and a number of foreign countries. He was a faithful supporter of a number of mission projects.

Survivors include his wife, Olive Doorenbos; five daughters, Donna and Lavern Meyer of Boyden, Darlene and Ray De Vilbiss of Palmer, AK, Carlyn Doorenbos of Longmont, CO, Sharon and Gary Hollatz of Garner, and Linda and Rick Korthals of George; five sons, Leland and Ella Doorenbos of Boyden, Arlen and Linda Doorenbos of Boyden, Elwin and Lisa Doorenbos of Boyden, Kenneth and Sue Doorenbos of Boyden, and Dwight and Nancy Doorenbos of Boyden; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Dykstra of Bellflower, CA.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; six brothers, William Doorenbos, Walter Doorenbos, Lawrence Doorenbos, Jacob Doorenbos, Alfred Doorenbos, and Richard Doorenbos; and two sisters, Evelyn Visser and Winifred Dykstra.
