From the Sioux County Index-Reporter, February 24, 1999:

Evelyn H. Doorenbos, 91, of Boyden, died Monday, February 15, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Demco Community Building in Boyden. Lyle Schober and Bruce Van Stelton officiated. Interment was at the Sheridan Township Cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doorenbos was born March 16, 1907, near Boyden, the daughter of John William and Johanna (Helmink) Beyer. She attended rural school in Capel Township in Sioux County. She married William Doorenbos on April 18, 1944, in Orange City. The couple farmed in the Boyden area for many years. He died June 26, 1969, in Sioux City. She remained on the farm until entering the Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Ruth and Arlin Pfingsten of Boyden; five grandchildren, John Pfingston of Boyden, Laura and her husband, Todd Eicher, of Monticello, Wis., Sarah and her husband, Brian Carter, of Iowa City, Anne Marie Pfingsten and Mary Pfingsten of Council Bluffs; two great-granddaughters, Allison and Skyler Eicher; two sisters, Minnie Beyer of Sheldon and Grace and her husband, Wallace Braasch, of Ryder, N.D.; a brother, Garrett Beyer of Primghar; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Beyer of Oronoco, Minn.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman and Raymond.
