Augusta Doorenbos
June 6, 1914 – May 5, 2001

Augusta Marie Doorenbos, 86, Orange City, died Saturday, May 5, at Orange City Hospital. Services were Tuesday, May 8, at First Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. David Sterk officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery near Boyden, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Augusta Doorenbos, daughter of William J. and Nellie (De Boer) Vander Haar, was born June 6, 1914, in rural Hospers. She was raised at Boyden by her adoptive parents, Henry M. and Minnie Scholten. She graduated from Northwestern Junior College in Orange City and was a teacher at the Bell country school and Newkirk School. She married Alfred Doorenbos on Dec. 21, 1938, in Boyden, where they farmed. Mr. Doorenbos died Sept. 21, 1973, in Boyden. She moved to Orange City in 1974. She became a resident of Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in 1999.

She was a member of First Reformed Church in Orange City and a former member of United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. She enjoyed singing and participated in the Siouxland Chorus and Senior Saints.

Survivors include five children, Russel and Sharon Doorenbos of Boyden, Dr. Daryl and Elaine Doorenbos of LeMars, Rodney Doorenbos of Washburn, MO, Marlene and Wayne Slothouber of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dr. Roy and Darlene Doorenbos of Grinnell; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Berghorst of Artesia, CA, and Esther Nyenhuis of Bellflower, CA; and an aunt, Alice De Boer of Orange City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Doorenbos; and three sisters, Edna Baker, Ethel Bonnema and Verna Elbers.
