From the Hawarden Independent, May 16, 2002:

Pauline F. Doohen, 96, died April 9, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral service was Friday at Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Jeff Schleisman officiating. Interment was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Larkin Morningside Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Pauline Doohen was born Nov. 15, 1905 at Woonsocket, S.D., the daughter of Joseph and Obeline (Chicoine) Lambert. She graduated from the Jefferson, S.D. High School in 1924 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of South Dakota in 1962[?]. She married John E. Doohen at Jefferson on Aug. 27, 1934. Mr. Doohen died in 1962. [His obituary (posted separately) shows him dying in 1952.]

She taught in rural schools in South Dakota and Iowa for 18 years and first grade for the West Sioux school system for 16 years. She moved to Sioux City in 1989. She served as organist for St. Mary’s Church in Hawarden for many years. She was a member of the Sioux City Senior Citizens, the Golden Age card club and other senior groups.

Survivors include son John, of Sioux City; sister Marie McDonnell of Silver Spring, Md.; brother Francis Lambert of Sioux City; and sister-in-law Mildred Engle of Vermillion. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother Fabien.
