RITES AT SHELDON FOR MRS. HERMAN SCHWARZ

Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheldon, Tuesday morning for Mrs. Herman Schwarz, 86, who passed away in the Sheldon Hospital Saturday following a stroke.

Wilhelmina “Minnie” Van Bergen was born at Le Mars, Iowa, July 20, 1878, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius and Mary Ann (Gerst) Van Bergen, who later moved to a farm south of Alton before settling in Granville.

February 13, 1901, she was married to Herman Schwarz at St. Joseph Church, Granville, and resided on a farm for a year before moving to Granville, where he was employed in the elevator for years. Later they began farming north of Granville, and then moved to a farm near Ashton where they still reside.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters: (Josepha) Mrs. Henry Jones, (Mildred) Mrs. Harry Schaa; two sons, Julius and Martin of Ashton; numerous grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Nell Penning of Granville.

She was preceded in death by one son, Edward, her parents, two brothers, John and Frank Van Bergen. Burial was in the family lot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Granville.
